Nine communities located in the Pru East District of the Bono East Region have been severely affected after the Volta Lake overflowed its banks, leading to the displacement of some 2,554 residents.

The communities most affected by the flooding include Kobre Nsuano, Pentecost Nsuano, Adiembra, Fanteakura, Tokobikope, Tonka, Agokope, Logakope, and others.

This information was disclosed by the Pru East District Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Fredrick Ndila Ntana, during an interview with Citi News monitored by ModernGhana News.

"So far we have about over nine communities which are affected by the floods. These are Fanteakura, Birikente, Tokobikope, Accra Town, Kobre Nsuano, Who Are You, and many others," Mr. Ntana stated.

He further elaborated on the extent of displacement, noting that, "We have about 2,554 people displaced. The males are 1,302, and the females are 1,252. We have relocated them to the highest grounds."

It was reported that more than 26,000 people have been displaced as a result of the spillage of the Akosombo dam in various communities located in the Volta and Eastern regions.

The Volta River Authority (VRA) initiated controlled spillage from the Akosombo and Kpong Dams on September 15, 2023, due to the water level of the Akosombo reservoir.

This action has resulted in the submersion of homes and properties of thousands of residents in areas such as South Tongu, North Tongu, Central Tongu, Asuogyaman, and other regions.
