In the run-up to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer election, Kennedy Agyapong, a flagbearer hopeful, is upbeat about winning the 2024 general elections if elected the party's flagbearer.

During an interview on Skyy Power FM, Kennedy Agyapong made it clear that, in his view, no appointee of the current government would be able to secure victory for the NPP without using proof of contributions and achievements.

"So, delegates who are listening to me, because of the selfish interest of some leaders, they are pushing you to vote for a particular candidate, and that candidate also, if you vote for him, you can't break the eight," Mr Agyapong remarked.

He added, “Read my lips, Ghanaians will deny anybody who has served under this government from breaking the eight, it is not possible…they should tell Ghanaians what they have done to prove that they can break the eight."

He noted that Bawumia initially campaigned on economic issues but appeared to have shifted his focus away from the economy to digitalisation.

"Check his performance, the man came with the economy, but now he is not talking about the economy anymore," Agyapong observed.

Kennedy Agyapong outlined his commitment to addressing unemployment and creating job opportunities, particularly in resource-rich regions like the Western Region, should he be given the opportunity to serve as the President.

"I am not a myopic thinker, I think big, I dream big, and I do things big, that is the only way that we can reduce the unemployment rate," he declared.

Kennedy Agyapong will be competing for the NPP flagbearer position against three other contenders, including Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Francis Addai-Nimoh.

The NPP has scheduled November 4, 2023 to select a flagbearer.
