THU, 29 JUN 2023 LISTEN

The Member of Parliament for Buem Constituency Kofi Adams has cautioned members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to be prepared for a big surprise following the National Democratic Congress (NDC) recent victory in Assin North by-election.

According to Mr Adams, NPP members have been whipped to think that the scores are settled by winning the Kumawu by-election.

Speaking in an interview on Metro TV he said “in the Kumawu by-elections NPP won and that we came to concede victory in Assin so it is 1-1. You will be deceiving yourself.”

He indicated that the NDC votes in both Kumawu and Assin North elections have appreciated indicating a wind of change about to hit the NPP in election 2024.

“We saw an appreciation in terms of the performance of NDC from 8.3 % to about 17.29%. So clearly you are seeing an appreciation for our party.

“In the Kumawu by-elections, you claim your win which was your stronghold. Anyway, that no other party can contest, however there was an appreciation in the NDC votes. In 2020, in Assin North the NDC votes turn out the same but if you observe, there was an appreciation this year. This doesn’t occur normally," he emphasised.

NDC's James Gyakye Quayson beat his close opponent NPP's Charles Opoku after polling 17,245 votes representing 57.56%, against 12,630 votes for the NPP candidate representing 42.15%.

The Liberal Party of Ghana’s (LPG) candidate, Sefenu Bernice Enyonam polled 87 votes representing 0.29%.
