APR 15, 2023 LISTEN

An aspiring flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Dr. Kwabena Duffuor has called for grassroots participation in consensus-building in the party.

In a speech delivered to party supporters at Yendi in the Northern Region on Thursday, April 14, 2023, the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana emphasised the need for power to be given to the people.

He stressed the importance of consensus-building and rejected any mentality of "I am more important than the party."

“...the party is for the poor and the needy - the grassroot….we must take care of the grassroot. You are the bedrock of the party. How do we make appointments without consulting you? The party must come first in our endeavors, even more than anyone,” he said.

Dr. Duffuor further reiterated his commitment to involve the grassroot in appointments and job opportunities for all to benefit from the party.

“In my administration when I become the leader, we’ll have to link the government and the party and the party structures must be well-formed. In my administration, there will be a unit within the party headquarters that will also be involved in the appointment of ministers and ambassadors for jobs. We have to do this from the grassroot,” he reiterated.

The speech by Dr. Duffuor has been widely praised by NDC supporters, who see his commitment to the party's values as a sign of his dedication to the party's cause. Many have also noted his vast experience in both the public and private sectors, and believe that he would make a valuable contribution to the party's efforts to build a better Ghana.

As the NDC prepares for the next general elections, Dr. Duffuor's message of unity and grassroots participation is likely to resonate with many party members and supporters who are often neglected.
