The District Court in Accra (Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit) has remanded businessman Evans Kyekyeku Oppong into Police custody, after appearing in court for the first time today following his arrest over an attempt to use his daughter for money ritual.

The businessman who is reported to have stayed abroad for years was arrested by the Police in Oyibi last week after a herbalist he consulted to use his 11-year-old daughter for the rituals reported the matter to the security agency.

Today, the District Court in Accra presided over by Her Worship Ama Adomako Kwakye has remanded Evans Kyekyeku Oppong into Police custody.

This was after the prosecution prayed the court for him to be remanded.

The accused has been charged with Preparation to commit a crime to wit.

Chief Inspector Richard Amoah who is the lead prosecutor on the case told the court today that extensive investigations into the matter are yet to be conducted.

He explained to the court that this is because the accused was arrested on June 3 before the weekend.

He said full investigations have started today as the Police gather needed evidence for the prosecution.

Representing the accused, Lawyer Ralph Agyepong did not oppose the request from the prosecution for his client to be remanded.

He, however, prayed the court to be allowed access to have a conference with him.

The request was duly granted by Her worship Ama Adomako Kwakye, who has adjourned the case to June 20, 2022.
