Ejura Killings: Committee report will gather dust on the shelves of the interior ministry — Toobu
01 OCT 2021 LISTEN

After waiting several months for the Ministry of Interior to disclose the reports of the Koomson Committee on the Ejura Killings, the dilemma has changed from making public the content of the report to the possibility of the Interior Ministry and the government not taking reasonable actions on the recommendations of the committee.

The Member of Parliament for Wa West, Honorable Peter Lanchene Toobu fears the Ejura report may also be treated like the Ayawaso West Wuogon incident which is sitting somewhere gathering dust.

Speaking on Prime Morning this week, the Member of Parliament cited precedence from the reports of the Emile Short's commission, which saw government do virtually zero in implementing the recommendations made by the committee and several other committee reports that have faced a similar fate.

“The recommendations are generous, the issue with Ghana is implementation..,” he said

According to him, the Koomson Committee of Inquiry was set up to calm tensions that arose after the incident in Ejura.

To him, the committee was a politicking tool used by government to take attention from the people of Ghana from the obvious dissatisfaction and peeking tensions in the country.

Among other things, the committee recommends the transfer of the District Police Commander of Ejura Police station for his incompetence in handling the situation in Ejura and an increase in police personnel in the district.

The committee further recommended the removal of the MCE, Honorable Saisu Bamba, and the establishment of sports and recreational centers in Ejura under the Zongo Development Fund to rechannel the energies of the youth.

These, the Wa West lawmaker Toobu feared will not be implemented by this government.
