In his quest to ensure that illegal mining in the country is eliminated to give the country's environmental landscape a new shape, President of the Northern Council of Zongo Chiefs of Mpasatia in the Atwima Mponua District of Ashanti Region, Chief Abdulai Mohammed has passionately appealed to Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II and other influential paramount chiefs in the country to step up the crusade against such activities popularly known as galamsey.

Speaking to the Modern Ghana News on a telephone interview, Chief Abdulai Mohammed observed that top chiefs like Otumfour Osei Tutu ll among other paramount chiefs must warn their sub-chiefs.

According to him, the sub-chiefs are the ones giving out their lands to illegal miners to destroy the natural environment with harmful chemicals.

The Northern chief proposed an instant fine on chiefs who are found releasing lands to illegal miners.

He added that such chiefs must be destooled to serve as a deterrent to others who engages in same deals.

He commended government for the step being taken to end illegal mining activities and hoped that Ghanaians would support the campaign.
