John Mahama Should Be Grateful And Not Push The Country Down The Slope Of War

Feature Article John Mahama Should Be Grateful And Not Push The Country Down The Slope Of War
DEC 10, 2020 LISTEN

I would like to thank the good people of Ghana for conducting themselves peacefully in this election. So far so good. I encourage Ghanaians to continue to be calm and keep the peace. I can imagine the anxiety and even the kind of depression many Ghanaians have suffered considering the outcome of the elections and the commentary from the NDC, particularly, former President John Mahama.

When John Mahama lost miserably in 20116, many Ghanaians thought Mahama should have been grateful for all the opportunities he has enjoyed as a politician and not contest the 2020 presidential elections. I am one person who didn’t give John Mahama any dog chance in this election. I expected him to lose by a wide margin of percentage. I know many NDCs never imagine they could come this close and are grateful for it. At least it offers them some kind of hope in future elections. As to how the NDC could flip many seats and close the margin from the previous elections, I am yet to understand and Ghanaians expect Mahama to be magnanimous and show gratitude to his voters. You cannot show this level of ungratefulness at all levels. Indeed, this election has offered political scientists, analysts and observers the opportunity to deconstruct and reconstruct the voting psychology of the Ghanaian.

Notwithstanding, I am particularly incensed about the commentary from the NDC and John Mahama. Indeed, John Mahama has made nonsense of the much talked about pre-election peace pact. The peace pact enjoined the presidential candidates to conduct campaigns with decorum and to check the excesses of their supporters. Was it not surprising to see Mahama himself publicly blowing the dog whistle to activate the jubilant mood of his supporters?

I have never seen John Mahama struggle to speak like the way he did at their late-night press conference. Defeat was showing all over his face. He couldn’t even stitch his words. How could he give such a ‘’concession’’ speech whiles crying and turn around to tell his supporters you are winning? Is it witchcraft or what?

Mr Former President, please, stop giving your supporters false hope. Declaring presidential and parliamentary elections in your favour contrary to data is completely unacceptable. Opposing this credible election in such a Trump fashion is abhorrent. I am eve n more disappointed by the unguarded comments from the minority leader in parliament, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu. Ghana will not burn simply because you want to be president. Mr Mahama, please, know that the number of votes you obtained in this election should suggest to you that a many Ghanaians have confidence in you and it is time for you to show leadership. If you have issues with the election, it will not be addressed on the streets. There is a clear path for challenging the elections and you know better.

As for NDCs attempt to indict the hardworking and professional security agencies, especially the military, the least said about it the better.

I urge the youth of our dear country to be calm and not allow any politician to use them to create any mayhem and instability. Ghana is all we have and this election and we must do everything to keep the peace.

I encourage all supporters of the NPP to continue to remain calm. Our Victory is not in doubt. We shouldn’t follow the irresponsible path of the NDC and anything that will undermine and jeopardize the peace in the country.

God bless our homeland Ghana and make us great and strong.
