Covid-19: Face Mask Defaulters To Sweep, Clean And Desilt Gutters
Persons who refuse to use face masks in the Ashanti Region will henceforth be sanctioned, the Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, has warned.
He gave the warning yesterday when he launched a Zoomlion/Police disinfection exercise for the Ashanti Regional Police Command in Kumasi.
Such defaulters, he said, would sweep, clean and desilt gutters, among other punishment.
“If you are caught playing football or draught or riding a motorbike without helmets, you will be severely punished,” he said as they take steps to enforce the President's directives aimed at stopping the spread of the Covid-19.
He said there is a 25-person limit for private burials and not for other gatherings, adding “if persuasion fails force must be applied.”
One hundred and twenty-five (125) police stations are scheduled to be disinfected under the programme.
The minister assured the contractor (Zoomlion) of his outfit and the police command as well as the Asantehene's support in the exercise.
He urged the police and all to wash their hands regularly with soap and also usage of hand sanitizers, among others.
He expressed gratitude to Zoomlion for making the Ashanti Region their next port of call after the national capital, Accra.
The General Managers of Ashanti Waste and Adehyeman Waste subsidiaries of Zoomlion Ghana Limited Messrs Philip Yeboah Asante and Franklin Ofori Akuffo supervised the disinfection exercise and assured the police that they could return to their offices two hours after the exercise because the chemical concentration is not as potent as the one used in the various senior high schools and other public institutions.
Mr. Asante said the exercise was expected to be completed in five days.
Mr. Akuffo said the company would ensure strict professionalism and give seriousness to the disinfection exercise.
He said over 500 people were being deployed to do the disinfestation/fumigation of the 158 police stations and barracks.
Zoomlion was contracted by the Ghana Police Service to disinfest/fumigate all police stations and barracks to help safe the police officers, inmates and the public from contracting Covid-19.
The Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander, ACP Agyeman Adjem, called on all police officers to provide a friendly environment for Zoomlion Ghana Limited to fumigate and disinfect their various offices and homes to minimize the spread of the virus.
He reminded the command of the recent reports that some police officers were infected with the virus and cautioned them to observe the health and safety protocols needed to defeat Covid-19.
