Ghanaian actor Prince David Osei has evaluated the performance of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, giving the party a score of seven out of ten for its governance over the past eight years.

While acknowledging the government's commendable efforts, especially amid challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Osei expressed disappointment with their neglect of the creative arts industry.

During a discussion on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, Osei emphasised the lack of attention and resources allocated to the creative sector by the government.

He criticised the authorities, including ministers and deputy ministers, for not doing enough to support the industry.

“On a scale of 1 to 10, I will give them 7. I’ve always been saying that enough attention is not being paid to the creative sector," Osei stated.

According to Osei, the creative arts industry deserves a huge share of the nation’s resources and recognition for its contribution to Ghana’s development.

“I believe the creative arts (industry) should be well-equipped. We should get more of the national cake,” he emphasised.

He argued that without proper support, Ghana would miss out on its potential benefits.

“Until we start respecting the creative arts and paying attention to it, we are not going to benefit as much as we are supposed to. This is because a lot of people tend to look down on actors and musicians, but we have the platform, and we have the numbers,” Osei remarked.

He further emphasised that creatives could influence political discourse and bring about positive change in governance if given the necessary support and recognition.

He stated, “We can convince the people, persuade the people, cause great change in governance, and also get involved in the political discourse.”
