Nana Aba Anamoah Is Egg Ambassador

Popular television broadcaster Nana Aba Anamoah has been appointed as ambassador for the National Egg Campaign (NEC). She was unveiled at a short ceremony in Accra last Thursday.

The campaign which started about two years ago is part of the overall agenda to revamp the country’s poultry industry. The campaign is aimed at promoting the consumption of eggs among Ghanaians.

According to officials of the NEC, the role of the Egg Ambassadors is to use their influence and following to support the campaign to preach the message that eggs are a good natural source of protein and also fight the several socio-cultural myths surrounding the eating of eggs.

Another Egg Ambassador Mikki Osei-Berko of Taxi Driver TV series fame was also unveiled at the ceremony.

Though egg consumption in Ghana has risen over the years the per capita consumption of eggs in Ghana is still far lower than in western countries.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ms Anamoah said she is regular eater of eggs and therefore found it surprising that people had issues with eating of eggs. She assured she will use her new role to champion and the health and nutritional benefits of eating eggs.

The National Egg Campaign is a collaborative effort by the Ghana National Association of Poultry Farmers (GNAPF), Ministry of Food and Agriculture and the Ghana Health Service.
