Northern Ghana Entertainment Awards Launched

Smile Multimedia, in collaboration with the Celebrities Charity Development Foundation, last Friday launched this year's edition of the Northern Ghana Entertainment Awards (NEA) at the Akayet Hotel in the Upper East Region.

The awards scheme, according to the organisers, is aimed at recognising and honouring distinguished personalities who have positively contributed to the steady growth of the entertainment industry in northern Ghana.

The launch ceremony attracted a large number of the stakeholders in the creative arts industry, as well as some personalities from the business community.

This year's awards ceremony will take place in the Upper West regional capital, Wa, on Saturday March 31, 2018. The nominees' jam will to take place in Tamale before the main event.

The organisers of the awards scheme early this week rolled out plans for this year's edition with a call for entries for all works produced within the calendar year to be considered.

A 15-member selection committee, a nine-member board and a 35-member academy with representation across the three regions of the north will consult and nominate persons to be honoured and awarded in 15 music award categories, six film award categories, 10 media categories, three sports category and 20 merit awards.
