Accra, Sept. 1, GNA - The Pan African Writers' Association has nominated two writers to be considered for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award for children's literature.

A statement signed by Prof. Atukwei Okai, Secretary-General of PAWA, in Accra on Thursday named the nominees as Meshack Asare of Ghana and Helmy El-Touni of Egypt.

It said a panel constituted by PAWA also noted the high quality of the work of the Ethiopian children's writer, Mr Michael Daniel Ambatchew.

The Swedish National Council for Cultural Affairs in April this year invited PAWA to nominate candidates for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award for children's literature.

The statement said the award was the most prestigious prize instituted for children's literature in the world.

PAWA constituted a 12-member panel of judges to select from among African writers and illustrators of different literatures the works to be considered for the award. The panel of judges was made up of writers from South Africa, Egypt, Gabon, Senegal, Nigeria, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Ghana. 01 Sept. 05
