Ashgold defender Eric Donkor has shared optimism in his side’s ability to walk away with a victory when they host Akonangui FC this weekend for the second leg of the first qualifying round of this year’s edition of the CAF Confederations Cup.
The Ghana Premier League side is hoping to take advantage of their 1-1 result from the first leg in Equatorial Guinea to ensure they secure qualification to the next round of the continental competition.
Nicknamed the Miners, Ashgold is expected to welcome their opponent to the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium on Saturday, August 24, 2019.
Speaking to cafonline.com, experience defender Eric Donkor has noted that the team has not qualified yet but will make sure they beat Akonangui to seal progress to the next phase.
“We are not out of the woods yet. We still have to qualify and winning on Saturday is the only way. The draw in Equatorial Guinea has boosted our morale because even before that game, we knew nothing about them. Now we have a fair idea of the side we are dealing with. There's nothing to be complacent about, all we know is that we have to win and make our fans very happy”, Donkor said.
The former Asante Kotoko player further disclosed that Ashanti Gold as a team is happy with the result they picked from the first leg even though they should have won.
“It was a good away result for us in the first leg and we are happy about it, though I personally feel we should have won the game looking at our performance”, he added.
