Kumasi Asante Kotoko has been stretched at the top of Premier B standings in the GFA Normalization Committee (NC) Special Competition following a 1-1 draw with Bechem United.
A high intensive matchup between the two sides produced two quick goals in less than five minutes into proceedings. Bechem player Prince Adu got on the scoresheet on the 2nd minute before attacker Abdul Fatawu Safui leveled the scores on the 4th minutes for the home side.
The match eventually ending in a draw despite the two sides creating a lot of opportunities in the second half.
With table-topping Medeama winning their match against Obuasi Ashanti Gold, they have now stretched the gap with Kotoko to 4 points. That important 1-0 results posted on the Miners has ensured they remain on top of the pile with 19 points from 9 matches.
Kotoko retains the second position on the table but with 15 points from 9 matches. Up next for the Reds, they will be playing as guests to inconsistent Ashanti Gold in the second Ashanti Derby of the novelty competition over the weekend. The away side will need to amass all 3 points to keep their chances of qualifying to the next phase of the competition alive.
The Yellow and Blacks, on the other hand, cannot afford a slip again or they will be forced to kiss qualification to the next round goodbye especially with the competition nearing the end of its first round.
