Accra, April 26, GNA - The Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GTF), as part of towards the 2017 World Taekwondo Open Championships, has donated protective equipment to the Regional Associations.

The donation was through the support of the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) Foundation Peace corps.

The equipment includes, head gears, shin, groin and fist protectors.

Mr. Frederick Lartey Otu, President of the GTF, said the donation was as a result of their healthy relationship with the world body.

He said the WTF has over the years supported the GTF, with technical support and last year sent volunteers to Ghana, to spread the sport in the country.

According to Mr Otu, Ghana will be hosting the World Taekwondo Open Championships, in August and there was the need for Ghanaian athletes to have adequate preparations ahead of the event.

'We want the athletes to prepare adequately and win laurels for Ghana, and there each athlete is expected to use the equipment for their trainings and ensure they are comfortable with it during the competitions.

'We also want to promote healthy sport, by avoiding sharing of protective measures. Use the equipment to train and be comfortable on the day of competitions.' He stated.
