One of Ghana's veteran Coaches, Emmanuel Kwesi Afranie has died after an ambulance transferring him to Kumasi got involved in a fatal accident.
The legendary coach met his untimely death when an ambulance transferring him from the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra to Okomfo Anokye Hospital in Kumasi was involved in an accident near Bunso Junction on the Accra – Kumasi highway stretch of the Eastern Region. The impact of the accident caused the vehicle to skid off the road and tumbled into the Densu River.
The former Black Satellites coach was until then receiving treatment for mild stroke at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
His body was sent to the Suhum Government Hospital morgue awaiting autopsy.
Four other victims who were with him in the ambulance including the driver are currently receiving treatment at the Suhum Government Hospital.
The late Afranie was at the helm of affairs when the Black Starlets qualified for the World Cup in 1991, 1997 and in 1999. He was also credited for qualifying the Black Queens to the World Cup.
He was highly rated for developing players like Sulley Muntari, Derek Boateng, Michael Essien, John Paintsil and John Mensah who formed the nexus of the Black Satellites.
