2022 Accra Inter-City Marathon launched

The grand launch of the Accra Inter-City Marathon also called the Homowo Marathon was performed at a colorful ceremony by Nii Quao Donkor III, Asare Tsono Mantse, and a representative of the Ga Traditional Council on Wednesday at the plush Oceanic Resort at Korle Gonno.

He commended Medivents Consult and the sponsors for bringing a grand sports event to herald the celebration of the Homowo Festival. He prayed for an accident-free event on July 30, 2022.

Mr. Sam Aryeh of the Ghana Immigration Service and Ghana Athletics Association assured us that they will organize a world-class event. He presented a certificate to Medivents Consult to approve the organization of the Accra Inter-City Marathon.

Mr. Henri Senyo Penni, General Manager of Medivents Consult said this is the first of its kind in Marathons in Ghana and thanked the Ga Traditional Council for their support as well as approval from the Ghana Athletics Association. He said they aim to promote tourism, healthy living, and organizing sports activities, especially long-distance races.

He expressed that the 21 kilometers race will start from Papaye at Spintex Road and end at Mantse Agbonaa, James Town, with all water, medical, ambulance security, and traffic issues well arranged.

"All registered participants will get running shirts and numbers, while the first 10 to finish will win cash prizes and other souvenirs from sponsors," he stressed.

He announced Ghc10,000 for the winners both male and female, Ghc5,000 for the runners-up, Ghc3.000 for the third place, Ghc15,000 for the fourth place, and Ghc1,000 for the fifth place. Athletes who place from sixth to 10th will go home with Ghc500.

Present were representatives from the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Immigration Service Ghana Fire Service, and Ghana Education Service who were excited to have such a program and promised to put up a good show, also present was the evergreen Die Hard Supporters Union.

The marketing manager of SES HD plus, Mrs. Adelaide Abbiw Williams said her company is glad to be associated with the Accra Inter City Marathon also known as the Homowo Marathon.

Mr. William Ezah, CEO of Medivents Consult appreciated the media who love covering the least financed sports, including Athletics. He urged the youth of Accra to participate fully in the event as runners, volunteers, or cheering by the street side.

Mr. Ezah who is currently the Secretary-General of AIPS Africa served as Secretary-General for the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) for three terms.

The great Wulomoi Traditional Music Group was there to entertain guests and patrons.
