Former Ghana coach, Kwesi Appiah has revealed Asante Kotoko made him an offer to take over the club as the new coach but he refused.

The Ghana Premier League powerhouse appointed Portuguese manager, Mariano Barreto as the new coach ahead of the second round of the campaign on a one and half year deal.

Johnson Smith and Abdul Gazele were in charge of the club on the interim following the sacking of Maxwell Konadu in December 2020.

According to Appiah, he was approached by the Chief Executive Officer [CEO] of the club, Nana Yaw Amponsah and some Board Members but told them he was not interested due to the pressure of the job.

“It’s true," he told GhanaCrusader.

"I had a conversation with Nana Yaw Amponsah and some Board members but I declined because I have decided to take rest for some time because of the pressure that comes with the national team job,” he disclosed.

Appiah is a former coach and former captain of the Porcupine Warriors.

The 60-year-old has been clubless since leaving the Black Stars job in November 2020.
