The Director-General of Welfare of the Ghana Police Service, COP Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah on Friday, June 19, 2020, paid a working visit to the headquarters of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

The visit follows discussions between the Inspector General of Police (IGP) James Oppong-Boanuh. and the President of the GFA, Kurt E.S Okraku earlier this week.

The country’s football governing body has been working hand in hand with the security agency and continues to do so. Currently, the FA has two prosecutors with one from the police service who are playing key roles for the association.

Interacting with the leadership of the GFA on the Baba Yara shooting incidence, COP Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah said: “There’s a procedure for such cases and what the IGP has requested for all reports to be consolidated and submitted. After we will get back to you on the way forward.”

She added, “We assure you that the Police is here to offer any support. The IGP has requested for the full report from the Baya Yara Stadium incident”.

On his part, Kurt Okraku stressed on the need to have a Sports Policing Unit, a unit the Police Service has already expressed its readiness to set up.

“We’ve learnt a lot of lessons from 9th May, 2001 and so clearly it’s important to set up the Sports Policing Unit”, the Ghana FA capo said.
