The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Techiman Eleven Wonders, Albert Commey is calling on the government to support clubs financially to help them pay the salaries of players.

There have been no football activities in the country since the middle of March due to the Coronavirus (Covid-19) crisis. In the midst of the economic challenges presented by the disease, club owners are struggling to pay the salaries of their players with some even discussing the pay cut idea.

Speaking to Skyy FM on the hardship on clubs, Albert Commey has sent an appeal to the government for assistance.

“We have not said Government should give us money to run our clubs, but we need at least three months’ salary [from Government] for the players to keep them going for the return of the league”, the football administrator said.

He continued, “The immune system of our players are going down, so we plead with government because our players contribute to our GDP.

“Players who travel to play abroad send money home to their families to run business in Ghana.

“Government is not serious when it comes to supporting football because people have not been able to research into football's contribution to the economy”

It is understood that the government is deliberating on a proposal from the Ministry of Sports and is likely to release a stimulus package for sports in the country which will benefit the clubs as well.
