AFRICAN AMERICAN GIRL

EVERYONE WANT TO PUT DOWN THE AFRICAN AMERICAN GIRL
LIKE SHES MOST CORRUPTED IN ALL THE WORLD
SHE GOT ATTITUDE AND A HIGH SEX DRIVE
BUT WHAT SHE REALLY WANTS IS JUST TO FEEL ALIVE
SHE COOKS, SHE CLEANS, SHES NO DIFFERENT FROM
THE AFRICAN WOMAN YOU COME TO LOVE
SO WHY HATE HER WHEN SHE IS JUST TRYING TO SURVIVE
AND KICK HER DOWN FURTHER AND DESTROY HER PRIDE
YOU SEE SHE HAS TAKEN ON THE MAN ROLE CUS HE NO LONGER HOME
HE LIKES TO DRINK AND SMOKE AND THE STREETS HE ROAM
SHE IS FORCED TO BE THE PROVIDER OF THE FAMILY
CUS IF SHE DONT, WHERE WILL THEY BE?
IF YOU LOOK INTO THEIR EYES YOU WILL SEE THEIR PAIN
FROM GENERATION TO GENERATION THEY STRIVE AGAIN
TO MAKE LIFE JUST A LITTLE BIT BETTER FOR THE NEXT ONE
SO WHEN YOU SEE THEM DONT TAKE A LOOK AND RUN
EMBRACE THEM AND COME TO KNOW WHO THEY REALLY ARE
THEY ARE JUST WOMEN TRYING TO BECOME ALL THEY CAN
SO EMBRACE AND LOVE US AND WE WILL MAKE YOU PROUD MEN.

ITS MEANT FOR THOSE WHO THINK NEGATIVE ABOUT AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMEN. WHO DOUBT THAT WE ARE MORE THAN WHAT THEY HAVE HEARD. THERE ARE BAD APPLES AMONGST ALL SO WHY LABEL AN ENTIRE GROUP? THANKS FOR COMMENTING AND I HOPE THAT ANSWERS YOUR QUESTION.

Clear picture of the African-American girl and quite a provocative piece at it too.

As you take to the North allow me to go to the South for we might all perish should we troop one way.

African-American girls just like children brought up in oppressive and disadvantaged societies who turn rebelious and have imeasurable bitterness and hatred towards their family, are showing nothing but their frustrations.

My concern is the manner in which they have decided to vent out their discomfiture with the world.

It is visible that the poet is sympathetic of these ladies and somehow thinks that letting them be and accepting them is the way to go. I may not agree with the poet on this.I think that the best way of handling these people is by having them understand who they are and their circumastances in the contemporary world .

By knowing who they are they can chart their destinies on the smooth plane of life.

Good piece all the same.

As a Ghanaian from two worlds, I can feel this poem. Its so relevant to understand relationships between black Americans and black Caribbeans who have successful relationships with African immigrant men.

It really is painful to think about the misunderstanding, misconceptions we have of blacks.
I like what your poem does to bridge the gap

the only way the world can undergo metaphysical change under a system of oppression and frustration is by total change of the mind set...great poem...keep it up...
