Atwima-Nwabiagya administers capitation grant for 31,603 pupils
Nkawie (Ash), April 8, GNA - Thirty-one thousand, six hundred and three basic school pupils in the Atwima-Nwabiagya District have benefited from the capitation grant of 679.2 million cedis. Mr Eddy Obeng-Darko, District Director of Education, who made this known to the Ghana News Agency at Nkawie on Friday, said the grant coupled with the Directorate's intensive enrolment drive had significantly increased the enrolment figure from 31,603 to 35,943, an increase of about 18 per cent.
To accommodate the extra pupils, he said the District Assembly had improved the infrastructure and other facilities in the existing schools, while new blocks of classrooms were being put up at Abira, Barekese, Esaso and Adagya.
Mr Obeng-Darko said 61 public and private junior secondary schools in the District registered 3,482 candidates made up of 1,906 boys and 1,576 girls for this year's Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
He said 163 officers including 10 supervisors, 12 assistant supervisors and 141 invigilators had been recruited to ensure smooth and successful examinations.
Mr Obeng-Darko said 10 examination centres including Toase, Osei Tutu and Nkawie Secondary/Technical Schools, Adankwame and Barekese JSS, Tweneboa Kodua International School and Saint Lisbert International School had been selected for the BECE.
