Pinihe (B/A), April 03, GNA - Nkoranza District Directorate of Education and the District Assembly have decided to name the Pinihe Junior Secondary School after Mr John Osei Awuah, a citizen of the town, for his commitment and love for the development and promotion of education in the area.
Mr Kwabena Agyemang-Badu, the District Director of Education, said this at a meeting with the parents and teachers in Pinihe. In 1976 Mr Awuah, a building and road contractor, tarred the main streets of Pinihe and purchased a generating plant to provide electricity to the community.
Mr Awuah has since 1992 also provided free accommodation for six teachers serving in basic schools in the town. He also constructed a borehole to save them from guinea worm disease as the two streams in the area are infested with the water borne diseases.
Mr Awuah donated 1.7 million cedis as a counterpart funding on behalf of the community towards the construction of the six-classroom block of the Roman Catholic Primary School under the USAID/Quips Project and presented 20 dual desks to the school in the school. He appealed to the people to strike a cordial relationship with the teachers to render the necessary services in the education of their children.
Mr Charles Baafour Amisare, Headteacher of the local Roman Catholic Primary School, commended the government for providing the school with a block of six classrooms through the USAID/Quips Project.
