The Association of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) has elected its executives after the tenure of the old executives expired.

The newly elected executives were charged to ensure unity amongst members.

Addressing delegates before the elections in Salaga, the Gender Desk Officer of the East Gonja Municipal Assembly, Somah Patience advised female members of the association to be proactive in taking up positions in the association.

She lamented the low participation of women in various associations especially local government participation.

"Women are seen to be vulnerable and marginalized. It is the more reason we should strive to participate in all activities to make our voices heard," she indicated.

She called on the association to roll out programs that will affect the lives of women by creating opportunities for members.

She admonished them to report all forms of gender-related violence to the appropriate quarters.

The newly elected chairman of the association Ibrahim Yussif assured members he will ensure unity of purpose among members.

He is optimistic, the membership will increase under his administration.

"We will work to get timely release of funds from the Assembly for members to benefit," Mr. Yussif.
