Marginalization Of Ghanaian Women In The Political And Developmental Arenas [Epistle One]

Women’s political and developmental involvement is not making a desirous increment globally. A mediocre score of 21.8% has been recorded in attribution to women representation encompassing all national parliaments. A figure which undisputedly gives the indication that, women have being discriminated upon worldwide.

The sidelining of women before, during and after the birth of the fourth republic of Ghana in 1992 has awfully become the order of the day in both the political, cultural and the holistic socio-economic development spheres of the nation. Many nationwide and internationally mandated organizations have been making and piloting several initiatives and orchestrations to mitigate drastically or exterminate completely issues of abysmal women subordination in every nook and cranny part of the country.

The gigantic trend of the relegation of equally capable women who could in a larger sense be very instrumental in the political and development circles of the country is not only a mere issue at stake needed to be dealt with, but also a mammoth canker impeding growth in the country. Notwithstanding, the fourth republic under successive governments, which are mostly the two leading and dominant political parties in Ghana, vis-à-vis National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP), have endeavoured over the past two decades to improve upon this social plight. Disintegrated into various parts for better evaluation of gender imbalances are the three arms of government of the state. Also, reference should be made to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s), agendum number five (5) of the seventeen goals and 169 targets which is brought forth to redeem and empower women to attain higher heights and be given even treatment as the men.
