Man Lynched After Killing Pregnant Woman

Residents of Muramura a community near Nkawkaw on Sunday lynched one Kofi Sammy, a purportedly mentally ill man in the area after he admitted killing an 8-months-pregnant woman.

Confirming the incident to Citi News the Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer DSP Ebenezer Tetteh said both bodies have been deposited at the Nkawkaw Holy Family Hospital for autopsy.

According to reports the 30-year-old pregnant woman, Alimatu Karim, disappeared on Saturday after leaving her home in search of cola nuts.

The next day some residents saw Kofi Sammy cooking some suspicious looking meat in the bush and upon interrogation, the suspect who admitted it was human flesh led the members to a pit where the disfigured body of Alimatu had been deposited after admitting he killed her.

“On May 5th the Nkawkaw police had a distress call to the effect that an eight-month-old pregnant woman, Alimatu Karim aged 30 have been murdered by a known mentally challenged man, Kofi Sammy at Muramura near Nkawkaw, police also gathered that the suspect had aslo been lynched by a mob. The Nkawkaw District patrol team led by DSP Joseph Onsonyameye proceeded to the said village and met Juaso police together with the DCE of the Area and the chief of muramura, Nana Kwakye Amoh at the scene.”

The angry mob trooped to the chief’s palace where Sammy was being held to be handed over to the police and lynched him.

DSP Ebenezer Tetteh added that “the mob also set the man’s body on fire but police got there in time to quench the fire.”
