Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly (EKMA) has carried out a demolition exercise, to clear containers and other illegal structures erected around the Kwesimintsim car station.

Mr. John Davies, the Presiding Member, said adequate notice was given to the affected people, mostly traders.

They had been occupying the place without authorization and the assembly engaged them, last year, to relocate their businesses to the Apremdo Market.

He said the exercise became necessary after they ignored the order by the assembly.

Mr. Davies added that steps had been taken to prevent anybody from putting up illegal structures there.

Police officers would be detailed alongside the assembly's own guards to keep unauthorized persons off the place.

The Presiding member urged all occupants of unapproved spaces to relocate to the Apremdo market particularly operators of second hand clothing to give way for investors to commence the modern car park project.

Traffic congestion is also gradually becoming a daily hurdle for pedestrians, drivers and people who come to town to do business and the construction of a modern car park would be in the right direction to save the situation.

Mr Davies therefore reminded dealers of second-hand clothing operating within that space to as a matter of urgency move to the Apremdo Market just like the transport services who were now solely operating within the Apremdo market for convenience and appropriate planning of the city.
