Pressure Group, United Press for Development Network is calling on His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to outline his commitment to curbing the growing menace of press brutality in the country.

In the year in review, it can be recalled that several reported cases of media personnel caused a stir in the media space. Speaking to Class FM on the issue, Principal servant of the group, Kofi Asante Mensah has stressed that they want the President and his government to institute measures to resolve the issue of abuse on Journalists.

Kofi Asante Mensah disclosed that 2018 recorded the highest number of attacks on Journalist in the history of the 4th republic. A feat that has triggered them to particularly push for strong measures to be put in place by government to protect Journalists in their line of work.

“2018 recorded the biggest number of press brutality in the record of the 4th republic. I know a number of them did not come to our attention so it’s averagely 30 and you could expect that it is between 30 and 40 and can even go farer than that”.

“And when you talk of assault it’s not just beating the person or slapping the person. Verbal assault, insulting media person and all of that are part of the assault so it is not pleasant news”, the principal servant of the pressure group said.

He further highlighted that they have petitioned the President concerning the issue but they have not been fortunate enough to get any positive feedback. They are however looking forward to the first gentleman of the land doing something about their plea to ensure press brutality is curbed.

“I am just encouraging the current President of the day. We have demonstrated two times this year to show our displeasure of the menace of media brutality. We have written several petitions. Even some copied to the President and we have absolutely heard nothing and I mean absolutely nothing from the Presidency. Not even a single revelation from the investigative team so looking forward into 2019 we are looking at the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo outlining is commitment to curb media brutality”, Kofi Asante Mensah said.
