NDC Candidates Admonished To Do Clean Campaign

The Brong-Ahafo Regional Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) under former President John Dramani Mahama government have urged decent and clean campaigns by candidates for the Party's impending national elections.

Candidates contesting for any of the national leadership positions must guard against tendencies that could affect the prevailing peace and unity in the Party, they appealed.

According to the 29 MDCEs in the region, campaigns of personality attacks, character assassinations and resentment could easily create feuding factions that would narrow the fortunes of the NDC in Election 2020, hence the need for the candidates to base their campaigns on issues devoid of rancour.

At a news conference on Wednesday in Sunyani, the former Chief Executives registered their unhappiness about what they described as unhealthy behaviour of some perceived NDC supporters who were blaming Mr Johnson Asiedu-Nketiah, the Party's General Secretary for the Election 2016 defeat.

Mr. Gordon Asubonteng, the former Dormaa Central Municipal Chief Executive and spokesman for the MDCEs said several internal and external factors contributed to the defeat of the Party and instead of blaming each other, there was the need for the Party to forge ahead in unity, identify such challenges and address them for victory 2020.

Flanked by other colleagues and leading members of the Party in the region, Mr. Asubonteng said as the longest serving General Secretary of the NDC, Mr. Asiedu-Nketiah's contributions towards the growth and development of the NDC was exceptional.

'If we don't have anything good to offer our loyal and committed General Secretary, then we must keep quiet and not dent his political image and achievements in the NDC and the country as a whole.

'Mr. Asiedu-Nketiah remains as a strong pillar and unforgettable asset in our strong Party under the great umbrella and because of his political experience and expediency, some of us believe that he could easily lead the Party to victory in the 2020 general election', he added

That notwithstanding, he said the NDC strongly believed and cherished internal democracy, thus the need for the Party to open up the contest to pave the way for all good standing members to file and contest the impending national elections.

'Our chances in Election 2020 are extremely brighter and therefore we must endeavour to avoid all tendencies that have the potential to cause our downfall', Mr. Asubonteng stated.
