Prudential Life Insurance And Plan International Mentor 65 Students

Madam Rose Abbiw a Deputy Director at Effutu Directorate of the Ghana Education Service has urged Senior High School Students attach seriousness to the studies to make it to tertiary institutions.

Madam Abbiw made the call at a 4-day Prudential Life Insurance/Plan International Scholarship Mentorship Workshop for 65 students from Winneba, Cape Coast, Tema, Doduwa and Esutwari held at Winneba.

The participant were taken through mathematics, science, Income and budgeting, savings and investment, banking and insurance, and how to write business plans.

Madam Abbiw urged the beneficiary students to remember that they were taken out of the lot in their communities for such a programme and that they should make good use of the opportunity offered them to learn.

She commended the organizers for taking the plight of the children to support them to become well informed in the society.

Speaking at the programme Mr. Joseph Appiah Business Development Manager of plan Ghana who deputized for the Country Director of Plan Ghana said the Scholarship Scheme programme started in 2014, with the idea that Plan Ghana, having worked in the rural communities, observed that there were several children who did not have the means to further their education to the Universities, even though they had excellent results.

In search of help to embark on this programme, Prudential Life Insurance came on board and together they identified such children in the beneficiary communities in the country, he said.

According to him, since 2014 they have sponsored 555 students of which 60 percent of them were girls from SHS one to the University.

He said 265 out of the 555 have benefited from the mentorship and a total of 333 were expected to benefit form programme.

Mr. Appiah said, he hoped that mentorship programmes would go a long way with the double track school system the government has introduced.

He called on the government of Ghana to put in place mentoring programmes for the children when they are at home, saying without this their future cannot be described.

He urged the beneficiary students to let the offer given by Prudential Life Insurance/Plan International Scholarship Mentorship programme to study harder to continue to enjoying the offer they are given to them.
