Swedruhene Commends Nana Addo For Appointing Cynthia Morrison As Gender Minister

Chief of Agona Swedru in the Agona West Municipality of the Central Region, Nana Kobina Asiedu Botwe II has commended President Akufo Addo for appointing the Member of Parliament for Agona West, Hon. Mrs. Cynthia Morrison as Minister designate for Gender, Children and Social Protection.

" We are grateful to Nana Addo for the appointment. We are highly favoured because this is the first time a Member of Parliament for Agona West has been given Cabinet status in government.

We should all be grateful for the confident imposed on Hon. Mrs. Cynthia Morrison. She deserves the position and has no doubt that she will perform creditably"

Nana Kobina Asiedu Botwe II stated when Hon. Mrs. Cynthia handed over a 300-seater community center to the people of Ankyeanse a Suburb of Agona Swedru last Thursday.

He urged the constituents to rally behind President Akufo Addo led NPP government to implement its programmes and policies adding that every community seeks economic growth for its citizens and for that matter Agona Swedru cannot be left out from national cake.

Nana Botwe II bemoaned tribal politics that he said was springing up in the Agona West Constituency especially in Agona Swedru. He cautioned against the act threatening that those found would be severely dealt with according to the traditional laws of the law.

" Agona Swedru has become a cosmopolitan so all types of tribes have found their way here. Who're you then to tag someone as Alien or Foreigner?

We are all working towards the development of Agona Swedru and its surrounding communities. Nananom will therefore not countenance such selfish and self-interest individuals to tarnish the hard won Image that has gotten international recognition.

Let me warn that anyone caught describing someone as a foreigner or other wise all in the name of politics would face the full rigorous of the laws of the land.

Our forefathers triumph in unity to establish this noble town. Who are you to separate them?

I want all hands to be on deck towards the development of Agona Swedru in particular and for that matter Agona West municipality as a whole. Let forge ahead in unity and leave peaceful devoid of partisan politics.

Now that we gave gotten a Cabinet Minister, I would like to appeal to His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana to give Agona Swedru a Municipal Status. We deserve it and hope this appeal would be given a fair hearing.

Swedru is developing and increasing in numbers. The Swedru Municipal Assembly would assist in providing the needed social amenities for the people"

Handing over the facility, Hon. Mrs. Cynthia Morrison announced that the center apart from being a durbar grounds would also served as a learning center for children of school going age to boost educational standard in the community.

She disclosed that paid teachers would be engaged to hold classes for the students adding it would be well resourced for that matter.

" I want to thank Swedruman for supporting me all this while, I will do my possible best to discharge my duties diligently.

Let us work together as a team seeking the well-being of the people in the constituency in which Swedru is the capital. It behooves on all of us to ensure the total development of our various communities.

If given the nod as Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, I would like to establish a center for the aged where they would find haven.

It's an eyesore hearing the aged being tagged as witches and wizards by the very children they toiled to bring into the limelight.

We must stop tagging them but assist them by giving them comfortable zones. Knowing that we would be like them in the near future, we ought to treat them the same manner our children should treat us at our old age"

Hon. Mrs. Cynthia Morrison hinted that the center would serve as both recreation and health care center for the aged where medical personnel would be attending to them periodically checking their health status and offering medications.

She encouraged parents to invest in their children's education observing that the aged feels more comfortable in educated homes than non educated ones. This should be the guide lines for all of us here.

"It's rare for well educated children to call their parents witches and wizards. This is because they have learnt various stages of physical growth and know that the aged are not evil as presume by the society.

Education is the key to development. We have to ensure our children attain height in the educational ladder.

As your Member of Parliament, I will do my possible best within my power to ensure improvement in the lives of the people"

The Chairman of Swedru Urban Council and Assembly Members for Nsusososo Electoral Area Hon. Joseph Akyea Addo on behalf of the over 30 Assembly Members present pledged their support to towards the development of the Agona West Constituency.
