Twifo Praso (C/R), Sept 26, GNA - Mr Yaw Agyeibi-Kessie, the District Chief Executive for Twifo-Hemang Lower-Denkyira, has appealed to senior secondary school leavers in the district to embrace the 'Advocacy for Increased Community Participation in Quality Basic Education (AIQUBE) project to improve their academic standards. He said this when he inducted 20 rural education volunteers who had completed a 10-day intensive training in teaching at basic schools at Praso.

The volunteers, made up of some SSS leavers from 10 communities in the district, will assist in deprived communities. The programme organised by Action AID, Ghana an NGO in conjunction with Ghana Education Service (GES) was sponsored by Commonwealth Education Fund.

Mr Agyeibi-Kessie assured the volunteers of his administration's readiness to sponsor them for tertiary institutions and told them to work hard to sustain the project. The DCE said the success of the scheme would depend on the dedication and commitment of the volunteers. The volunteers were presented with teaching materials, bicycles, lanterns and touch lights.
