US Coast Ports Security team visits Ghana

Accra, Aug. 24, GNA - A team of United States Coast Port Security on Wednesday held a meeting with the Minister of Ports, Harbours and Railways, Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi in Accra on port security. Details of the meeting, which were held behind closed doors, were not made available to the media.

Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi told reporters that the presence of the four-member team was to present the Coast Guard's new international security programme.

The programme seeks to strengthen the security of ports worldwide through the sharing of best practices, improvement of communications and increased training for ports personnel.

The Minister said the Government was very much concerned about security at the Tema and Tarkoradi ports adding that the country shared its experience with countries in the West Africa Sub-Region. "This time we want to share experiences with countries outside the Sub-Region to ensure maximum security."
