Accra, Aug. 22, GNA - The Food and Drugs Board on Monday (FDB) cautioned the public to be curious about a fake brand of Angel Jumbo Mosquito Coil, which is in circulation in some parts of the country.

In a statement issued by Mr Emmanuel K. Agyarko, Chief Executive of the FDB, said it had registered only the original brand and, therefore, could not guarantee the safety, efficacy and quality of the fake brand.

It said although the fake and original products looked very much alike, the active ingredient in the original is 0.32 per cent D-ALLETHRIN while the fake one is 0.30 per cent D-ALLETHRIN. Additionally, the original Angel Jumbo Mosquito Coil is made in Malaysia, lighter in colour and has the word ANGEL embossed on the outer jacket whilst the fake one is from Indonesia.

The statement appealed to the public to assist the FDB with any information that would lead to the arrest of the perpetrators and also ensure the withdrawal of the fake brand from the market. The statement advised consumers to look out for the authentic features of the original brand and buy the right product. It also urged owners of shops and outlets having stocks of the fake product to withdraw them immediately and return them to the FDB or its suppliers.
