Reports emanating from Damongo in the West Gonja District of the Northern region indicate that some armed military men have inflicted severe wounds on a civilian.

This was when the victim, Jyimah Ibrahim, popularly known as Kashinteng, a well-known businessman, and Welding Engineer had parked his White Rexton SUV car with the registration number NR 175-13 to attend to nature's call.

The military men numbering three were believed to be traveling from Tamale to Wa when they spotted the victim.

The incident occurred at the Catholic Guest House junction a few kilometers away from the Damongo township between the hours of 1:00pm-3:00 pm Tuesday afternoon.

According to the victim, as soon as the soldiers stopped, they asked who the owner of the parked car was and the victim owned up.

They further queried whether that was the proper way of packing...And before the victim could say a word, one soldier forced to open one door of his car and found a single barrel and a pistol.

The soldier upon seeing this raised a false alarm and drew the attention of his colleagues that he had found arms in the victim's car.

The victim attempted to explain that he was not a criminal and that the weapons were duly registered.

He tried to show them the registration documents of the weapons but the military will have none of that.

The victim was then asked to go on his knees to which he obliged. They ordered for a thorough search of his car under a false accusation that he was a criminal. Items in the car were then ransacked.

An amount of GHC2,800 was confiscated and all his mobile phones were seized.

The victim was hit severally on the head with a wheel spanner until blood started oozing.

He was then ordered to lie flat on the ground and handcuffed in the process.

Jyimah Ibrahim insisted that he should even be taken to the police station for investigations but the military men refused saying that 'the police are always in bed with criminals.'

They demanded the victim pays an amount of GHC5,000 or risk getting a big case if they should take him to Wa.

The soldiers afterward took GHC1,000 from the GHC2,800 they had collected from the victim before setting him free.

Jyimah Ibrahim was immediately driven to the West Gonja Catholic hospital where he was treated and discharged. The case has been reported to the police and is currently under investigation.

According to Jyimah Ibrahim, he was only able to identify the number plate of the Van and one of the men who was driving the military with his name written as Bissi on his tag. The number plate of the Van was 69 WA.
