The Brong-Ahafo Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) made a significant progress with its Internally Generated Fund in 2017, raking in 91,500.00 proceeds.

ACFO James Owusu-Adjei, the Regional Commander, who disclosed this, said through its safety department the Service was able to generate GH¢50,732 in 2016.

That, notwithstanding, the Regional Fire Commander said last year the region lost GH¢1,659,688 through 415 recorded fire outbreaks.

No casualty was, however, recorded.
ACFO Owusu-Adjei said this during an address to personnel of the Command at a durbar in Sunyani.

The event was held to welcome Mr Edwin Ekow Blankson, the Acting Chief Fire Officer into the region.

Accompanied by other key officers of the Service, the acting CFO was on a day's working visit to acquaint himself with the operations of the command.

ACFO Owusu-Adjei commended personnel of the service for their hard work and dedication to duty despite the numerous challenges that confronted the command.

He expressed concern with the inadequate staff and fire suppression equipment saying the 631 personnel were not enough to man the 21 fire stations in the region.

The Acting CFO Blankson said his outfit is aware of the challenges facing the Service, adding that it was working with the Ministry of Interior to address existing challenges.

He said the lack of various logistics including the requisite clothing and other protective gears is a great worry and expressed the hope that these would be supplied to enhance work.
