JAN 19, 2018 LISTEN

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Tatale/Sanguli District has organized a public sensitization forum on tax compliance.

The forum forms part of a nationwide campaign by the NCCE aimed at creating public awareness on the need to accept tax payment as a civic duty.

The event organized by the NCCE in collaboration with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) seeks to increase national revenue through tax collection.

Mr Iddrisu Latif, the NCCE District Director, said money paid as taxes are used to pay salaries of workers such as the Ghana Police Service and fire fighters to ensure law, order and safety.

He said government depends on taxes to provide basic social amenities such as portable drinking water, construction and maintenance of roads, creating jobs for the youth, building school and hospitals.

The event carried out in various communities in the District targeted religious groups, traditional authorities, women groups, youth groups, artisans, transport operators, market women and other taxable individuals.

The campaign dubbed 'Our Taxes-Our Future' also seeks to attain public responsiveness in the effort to honour civic responsibilities.

Mr Latif urged the public to register their businesses with the GRA in order to protect their business under the internal revenue Act, 2015 (Act 684).
