NUGS President Attends To Konongo Odumase SHS Fire Victims

The President of the National Union of Ghana Students, NUGS Elisha Oheneba Essumang and the Leadership of the Union together with the Ashanti Regional Students Representative Council yesterday, December 10, 2017 expressed their sympathies and solidarity with Management and students of Konongo Odumasi SHS for the unfortunate fire incidence.

It will be recalled that fire gutted the Boy’s Dormitories of the school on Saturday night, destroying assets and belongings of the students.

The leadership of NUGS led by the President Elisha Oheneba Essumang visited the school to have a first hand information of the situation and to assess how they can ease the pain of the affected students. The student leadership conferred with the authorities of the school and had a briefing about how the incidence happened and the best avenue to remedy the situation,he noted.

He used the opportunity to thank the Ghana National Fire Service and NADMO for their swift response in bringing the situation under control.

The Headmaster of the school, Benjamin Kweku Baah (ESQ) thanked the leadership of NUGS for their kind gesture and words of dncouragement. Elisha Oheneba Essumang encouraged NUGS to continue to advocate for students interest and deliver on its set objectives and mandate.

On their part, the Member of Parliament for the Asante Akyem Central constituency, Hon. Kwame Anyemadu Antwi and the Municipal Chief Executive, MCE Susan Akomeah expressed their joy for the timely response of NUGS during this challenging moments. Also present was Lawyer Andy Appiah Kubi, Deputy Railway Minister, and MP for Ashanti Akyem North.

It is unclear what started the fire but preliminary investigations has it that it could be an electrical fault.

Meanwhile the Essumang’s-led NUGS leadership has promised to support the affected students with some relief items. "Let me on behalf of these students plead with Corporate Ghana, Philanthropists, and Donors to come to the aid of the affected students" he stressed.
