Science South Africa Opens Science Forum 2017

The annual Science Forum South Africa (SFSA2017) has began in Pretoria, South Afrcia.

It is being organised by the South African Department of Science and Technology with collaboration with the National Research Foundation (NRF) and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).

The SFSA2017 programme which includes 3 plenary panel discussions, 39 parallel panel discussions, and 32 Science talks is being held under the theme: "Igniting Conversations About Science."

More than 260 speakers, including some 120 international speakers, will participate in the two-day event.

Dr Daan du Toit, Depurty Director-General of the Department of Science and Technology, in-charge of International Cooperation and Resources, said the Forum would hone the progress in the subject area and bring research closer to the people.

He said the Forum would showcase breakthroughs in science and technology and how this would or is impacting society.

"We realise this full programme may seem challenging, but we're confident it will give amble opportunities to ignite conversations about science."

"We're especially proud of the PAN-African focus, with more than 50 speakers coming from the rest of Africa."

This exciting programme will be further supported by nearly 70 exhibitions, providing a vibrant space to continue the conversations about science as Mr Cyril Ramaphosa, Deputy President of South Africa opens the session.
