The Old Students Association of the University of Cape Coast Junior High School (UNIJOSA) has supplied its alma mater with science laboratory tools and equipment to enhance the practical teaching and learning of science in the school.

They were made up of chemistry equipment and chemical food test, optic essentials, electronic playgrounds, chemistry kits, models of the human reproductive system, magnetic fields, electronic kits and models of the digestive and respiratory systems.

The 1995, 2000, 2006 and 2012 year groups of the school's old students provided the funding for the equipment valued at about GHC20,000.

At a short handing over ceremony, Mr Victor Bekui, Leader of the Association, explained that they were motivated to give back to the school which had moulded them into who they were today.

He was confident that the equipment would go a long way to strengthen the School's performance in the science subject and expressed the Association's determination to also build a science laboratory for the school.

Mr Bekui appealed to the teachers and students to handle the equipment properly to serve many generations.

Mrs Kate Frimpong, Headmistress, who received the equipment on behalf of the school, applauded the past students for their support and asked them to sustain it.

She said science teachers had to improvise or go to the science faculty of their mother institution to access equipment for practical work and described the gesture as timely.

She expressed the belief that it would boost the study of science among the students and translate into better performances at the Basic Education Certificate Exam (BECE) and assured that the equipment would be properly handled.

A secretariat for the old students was later commissioned for them to access information and offer prompt assistance to the school.
