The Regent University of Science and Technology has funded the registration of more than 100 children and older persons above 70 years onto the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

Professor Nicolas Nsowah-Nuamah, the President of the University, during the registration exercise at the weekend, said it allotted between GHȼ3,000.00 and GHȼ4,000.00 towards the registration.

In addition, more than 200 staff of the University underwent diabetes and blood pressure testing, while their body mass index were also taken.

Mr Borketey Bortey, the Ablekuma District Manager of the NHIS, expressed appreciation to the Management of the University for sponsoring the registration of the beneficiaries.

He noted that it would have cost each aged person GHȼ8.00 to be registered and GHȼ5.00 to renew the NHIS card and the same amount applied to persons below 18 years.

Mr Clement Adjei, the Assembly Member of McCarthy Hill Electoral Area, told the GNA that residents of Mendskrom, South McCarthy Hill, Mangoline, Wiaboman and other residents in the Ga South Municipality where the University is located were eligible for registration.

He, however, said persons in deprived areas within the Municipality were given priority attention.

The Assembly member thanked the University for the gesture and asked other corporate organisations in the area to undertake similar exercises as part of their widow's mite to the society.
