Apremdo (WR), Sept. 22, GNA - Goldfields Ghana limited on Thursday donated office accessories worth more than GH¢ 80,000 to the Second Infantry Battalion (2BN) of the Ghana Armed Forces to furnish its newly constructed operations department.

The items include office tables and chairs, a television set and air conditioners, as well as a cheque for GH¢ 4,000 to enable the 2BN to undertake mapping exercise.

Mr Robert Siaw, Sustainable Development Manager and leader of the Goldfields Ghana limited team, who presented the items, noted that, the mere presence of the Military around Communities have over the years helped to maintain law and order in the country.

"We have enjoyed a good relationship between us and the Military and we find it a pleasant duty to assist them to effectively discharge their mandate of ensuring peace and security," he added.

Lt Col. Emmanuel Opare Nyante, Commander of the Unit, who received the equipment on behalf of the department said, hitherto, the department which was a single room, would now be relocated to a new office complex, built with locally manufactured bricks and labour from the officers.

The Commanding officer expressed gratitude to the Ghana Goldfields Limited for responding to their call swiftly.

He said the operations department was central in the overall performance of the unit and that the items would in no small way enhance security service delivery in the country.
