Accra, July 19, GNA - The Asafotufiami Festival, the biggest celebration of the culture and tradition of the people of Ada, is to kick-start August 2, 2017 with a homecoming and bonfire night at the Aqua Safari Resort.

The Festival, which is in its 80th year, is one of the biggest festivals in Ghana and attended by over three million people from all walks of life.

A statement from the organisers said there would be amazing performances from some top artistes in Ghana to climax the week-long celebration.

As part of the activities ahead of the celebration, Djetse Abram Akuaku III, the Paramount Chief of Ada Traditional Area, led a delegation to Kumasi for Awukudae on an official invitation by Otumfuor Osei Tutu II.

The Ada Traditional Council also paid a courtesy call on some distinguished persons including former President Rawlings, former President John Dramani Mahama and Dr Daniel McKorley, the Executive Chairman of the McDan Group, who will chair this year's festival.

The eminent personalities assured the Ada Traditional Council of their full support and expressed readiness to attend and participate fully in the festivities and congratulated the people of Ada on the milestone.

This year's Asafotufiami Festival coincides with the 40 years of Djetse Akuaku's reign on the Ada Paramount Stool.

Activities such as a float, homecoming/bonfire night, a beauty pageant and a grand durbar would feature as part of the anniversary.

The Festival, which is held during the first week of August every year, allows the people of Ada to celebrate their Asafo companies and the ancient wars that they fought to protect themselves and their lands from foreign invasion.

In modern times, the festival has, however, become a time for the sons and daughters of Ada to come back home to take stock of issues that are hindering the development of the area and make plans for the next year.

This year's festival would have the honour of having President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, former Presidents; Jerry John Rawlings and John Dramani Mahama and Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, as special guests.

This year's Asafotufiami is proudly powered by the Paramount Stool of Ada and sponsored by Group Ideal, TV Africa, Business and Financial Times, Ghanaian Times, The Finder, Citi FM, The Multimedia Group, Obonu TV, Obonu FM and Radio Ada.

Highlights of the Festival include Traditional Asafo welcome by Nene Abram, Miss Ada 2017 and a durbar.
