Accra, March 1, GNA - The Young Adult Fellowship (YAF) of the Adabraka branch of the Presbyterian church of Ghana have held a health screening programme as part of their 10th anniversary celebration.

The anniversary, which was on the theme: 'When the Holy Spirit Moves; Impacting our Generation with the power of God,' saw people undergo screening for blood sugar, prostate, hepatitis B, breast cancer, and eye.

There was also blood donation and a check for blood groups.

In an interview with Ghana News Agency, Madam Betty Wiafe-Akenteng secretary for YAF said the aim was to reach out to the whole community and not the church alone.

'In partnership with Graphic Communication Group, we chose to have this health screening to benefit as many people as possible'.

According to Frank Anane Frempong, Chairman for the anniversary planning committee, YAF decided to make an impact to their society through giving and taking.

'Blood donation exercise is chosen in order to make an impact by donating blood, which is by way of people giving and also receiving through the screening for other related health issues.

'The church has a programme of donating blood at least twice a year…so for us at YAF we thought it was also the right time for people to know their status through the many screenings available here,' he said.

Anane Frempong noted that the blood was donated to the national blood bank where most hospitals could access blood from when needed.

Reverend Tetteh Akunor, the district minister for Adabraka official town Presby Church said 10 years was worth celebrating because it was a sign of growth and maturity.

'YAF advertised in the community over a period for people to come for health screening and blood donation…so today am not surprised seeing people here to take part in the exercise.

'This social responsibility is an intervention that would go a long way to help the community…most people might not know their health status but after the screening they would be aware and work on it.

'I see the YAF as full of potentials that the church can draw from at any time for church growth and community development.

The one-day health screening that took care of over 300 people was preceded by evangelism, games and prayer retreats.
