The Paramount Chief of Sunyani, Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri II, has appealed to the Brong Ahafo regional Minister, Hon. Kwasi Asomah-Cheremeh, to facilitate the construction of a Dam, in order to deal with the perennial problem of acute water supply within the Municipality.

Nana Bosoma made the appeal on Monday 27th February 2017,when the regional Minister paid a courtesy call on him and the Sunyani Traditional council to solicit their support as he begins his task as the regional Minister for the region.

“We have noticed that the Tano River has dried up,we have been told that several economic activities including galamsey operations are partly to blame for this problem,” Nana said.

“If we had a Dam which supplied the residents to support the Tano River, this problem of acute water supply within the Municipality and the Region wouldn’t have occurred,” he added.

“I am therefore appealing to you to use your office to facilitate the construction of a Dam for the residents of the Sunyani Municipality and even beyond so as to avert any future possibility of the same problem we face today,” Nana concluded.

Responding to the appeal by Nana Asor Nkrawiri II, the Brong Ahafo regional Minister, Hon. Kwasi Asomah-Cheremeh revealed that the construction of a Dam on the Tano River had been planned as early as 2015 with cost estimates and other projections already done.

“The proposal for the construction of a Dam on the Tano River started three years ago.

The cost estimates were done and an amount of $200 million was deemed as the amount needed for the project,” he said.

Hon. Asomah-Cheremeh however indicated that, the planned Dam would not be purposed for domestic usage alone but would also be used to support agriculture.

“The planned Dam would not be used for domestic purposes alone but also to support agriculture,” he said. “The Dam is going to be about 1 kilometer square and therefore it will be a very big Dam,” he added.

“As we have taken the mantle as government, we will look at what is on the drawing board as far as the water project is concerned and try to bring finality to the water problems within the Municipality,” he assured.

Nana Asor Nkrawiri II assured the regional Minister of the unflinching support of the Sunyani Traditional Council and asked Hon. Asomah-Cheremeh to call on the Traditional council anytime he faces challenges for their counsel . “We are solidly behind you. We ask God to guide you as you go about your work and urge you to come to us anytime you are faced with a challenge,” Nana said.

Hon. Asomah-Cheremeh on his part thanked Nananom for welcoming him and blessing him as he tries to make the Brong Ahafo region one of the best in the country. “I am humbled by the overwhelming support I have been given by Nananom,” he said.

“I came here before appearing before the vetting committee and the advice Nananom gave me really helped me to sail through and am extremely grateful for that".

“I will continue to work with them and heed their advice anytime they are offered in order to help build a prosperous Brong Ahafo,” he added.
