Cape Coast 23 Feb. GNA- Five fishermen from Elmina were on Wednesday put before a circuit court at Cape Coast for allegedly murdering and dumping the body of an unidentified man into the sea.

They are Ato Kwamina 25, Kuuku Boadu alias Kooko, 27, Papa Awortwe 26, Joseph Thompson 20, and Kweku Abeiku 21. Their pleas were not taken and were remanded in custody until Thursday March 10.

Kwamina, was last Friday, convicted for six months by a district court at Elmina, for escaping from lawful custody when they were arrested in connection with the alleged murder.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Augustine Amonoo, told the court, presided over by Mr Beresford Acquah, that on February 13 this year, the police had information that the body of an unidentified man had been washed ashore at Elmina, and later, some residents, suspecting the five to have lynched the man and dumped his body into the sea, arrested them and sent them to the police station.

He said at the police station, Kwamina escaped from lawful custody, but was re-arrested.
