President Thabo Mbeki congratulated Ghana's President John Kufuor on Friday on his re-election following Ghana's fourth multiparty, democratic elections on Tuesday.
"The government and people of the Republic of South Africa warmly congratulate you as leader of the New Patriotic Party, on your re-election as the president of the Republic of Ghana.
"The electoral process in Ghana bears testimony to how important the respect for democracy and the institutions it creates is in ensuring peace and good governance in Africa.
"In this regard, our congratulations also go to the people of Ghana who have shown through their actions their appreciation for democracy," Mbeki said.
