Gov’t played no role in Anas exposé; Martin Amidu ‘’goofed big time’’

Veteran journalist Abdul Malik Kweku Baako has once again stressed that government has nothing to do with Anas Aremeyaw Anas' investigation in which judges were filmed collecting bribes.

His renewed emphasis on this claim comes after a popular anti-corruption campaigner and former Attorney-General Martin Amidu suggested investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas got help from the NDC government in the shattering exposé .

Martin Amidu in an article copied to several media houses stated “…the undercover investigation that led to the judicial corruption exposé was commissioned by the Government of Ghana”

He added that government was looking for the opportunity to prove that there was corruption in the judiciary following several failed attempts to get favourable rulings in government's push to fight corruption.

“The investigation… has its genesis in the acrimonious relationship between the Government and the Judiciary on the assumption of power in 2009 and the constant demand by the Judiciary for proof of judicial corruption from Government and its associates,”

But Kweku Baako who has become the unofficial mouthpiece of Anas Aremeyaw Anas' private investigation team, Tiger PI, has rejected Amidu's claim as false.

In a facebook post, Baako stated “government did not, repeat, not commission the Anas Project on Judicial Corruption. Neither did Anas/Tiger Eye collaborate with any State Security or Law Enforcement Agency in pursuit of this particular project.”

Although he acknowledged that some collaboration has occurred between Anas and some other previous investigations, he was categorical in stating, nothing of that sort happened in the judicial scandal.

“Martin Amidu is a great Patriot passionate about the fight against corruption and bad governance…. However, I state emphatically that he has goofed big time in this specific instance”

The Editor-in-Chief of the Crusading Guide newspaper, Kweku Baako has been a jealous guardian of the credit due Anas.

Last October Kweku Baako was moved to warn NDC communicators to desist from giving credit to President John Mahama following the suspension of some judges implicated in the bribery scandal.

According to him, President Mahama had nothing to do with the investigative piece by Anas.

Anytime Government or State agencies had had anything to do with projects undertaken by Anas, the latter had publicly acknowledged it via public interviews and in the audio visual documentaries which he publicizes!

Only few examples will suffice here: there was open acknowledgement that President Mills' Administration had commissioned the Tema Port project.

Court records too show that Tiger Eye indicated that Cocobod had commissioned the anti-cocoa smuggling project. There are examples of such acknowledgments pre-dating the Mills and Mahama Administrations.

Many of Anas' projects, both in Ghana and outside Ghana, have had no connection with GoG or any State Agency. Martin Amidu is a great Patriot passionate about the fight against corruption and bad governance.

And he has my support in principle and practice.

However, I state emphatically that he has goofed big time in this specific instance. An appropriate response from Tiger Eye is loading....
