Police at Achimota in Accra are investigating the circumstances in which a month-old baby was beheaded at Anomle, an emerging slum near the Achimota school.

The baby’s decapitated body was found on a refuse dump in the area.

The Achimota District Police say the body has been deposited at the police hospital morgue whilst investigations have begun into the incident.

A Police Superintendent Firmin Azi-tariga told Joy News’ Latiff Idrisu that the body was found without a head and had started decomposing.

He said the body has been sent to the police hospital to be registered for post mortem.

Students and school authorities are frightened about the development.

The school authorities say they suspect that the baby was killed for spiritual purpose. They also blamed some residents of the slum for the murder.

“We think that the people living in the slum should be sacked from here, if we don’t we will get into trouble so in order to solve the problem they should all leave. We will fence the place and find a way to deal with the problem”, an authority in the school told Latiff.

But the resident say it is impossible for anyone living there to commit such an animosity.

“People have been doing the wrong thing and we get blamed for it. It is poor people who live here, this thing that is going on is for rich men who are living in the town”, a resident said.

Another said “some of us are not working but we are not bad boys, to me if government can come to this place and investigate what happened we will be grateful”.
